China remains the largest market for Ausnutria, accounting for approximately 85 percent of the group's total sales. Ausnutria's three largest infant nutrition brands - Kabrita, Hyproca and Allnutria - delivered encouraging growth. The Kabrita brand continues to lead in the category of infant nutrition based on goat's milk.

Challenges

Despite the good results of Ausnutria's largest infant nutrition brands, 2021 was also a year in which the company's growth came under more pressure. In addition to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the disruption of markets and competitive positions, the infant nutrition industry has faced challenges over the past year due to the continued decline in the birth rate in China. Bart van der Meer, CEO Ausnutria Dairy Corp. Ltd.: “I am proud that as a company we have been able to withstand these challenges and have ensured stable growth together with our sister organization in China.”

Introduction of new shareholder Yili

On October 27, 2021, dairy company Yili was brought onboard as the single largest shareholder. Yili ranks at the top of the global dairy industry and has been the number 1 dairy company in China for many years. Bart van der Meer, CEO Ausnutria Dairy Corp. Ltd.: “We have seen a consolidation of the market in the past year. Competition is getting fiercer. With the arrival of Yili, Ausnutria has a strong partner in the sector to further strengthen its position.”

Future-proof organization

Various investment projects in existing and new production facilities were completed in 2021. Renovations have taken place to make the Ausnutria factories in Kampen, Ommen and Leeuwarden future-proof. The new can manufacturing plant in Heerenveen, a joint project of Ausnutria and Trivium Packaging, started production at the end of last year and the construction of the new ultrafiltration factory in Heerenveen was completed in the middle of last year. Bart van der Meer, CEO Ausnutria Dairy Corp. Ltd.: “In anticipation of the growing demand for goat's milk infant nutrition, this factory, together with our future drying tower in Heerenveen, will guarantee sufficient high-quality and sustainable production for the Kabrita brand. Together, these two factories will form an integrated process.” Ausnutria aims for a completely gas-free production process for the construction of the new drying tower and the factory will operate completely carbon dioxide and nitrogen-free. The plant is expected to be operational in 2023.

Bart van der Meer, CEO Ausnutria Dairy Corp. Ltd.: “In order to continue to grow healthily, our policy focuses on operational efficiency, product diversification and sustainability. Therefore we will continue to invest in people and resources.”
